E-Classroom

In a development that is rare in Indian universities and certainly a novelty among higher education institutions in the Eastern region, Presidency now has an e-classroom where scholars from all over the world will be able to interact with Presi students via video-conferencing. This facility will also help us develop e-learning initiatives across the region and even countrywide in that the expertise of the Presi faculty can be disseminated to other institutions in real-time and Irrespective of location. The e-classroom has been a long cherished dream of our Vice Chancellor, Professor Malabika Sarkar without whose drive and efforts, this would not have been possible.

The construction was supervised by our Registrar, Prof Prabir Dasgupta and the first video-conferencing was set up by our Senior System Analyst, Mr Debapratim Mishra. The e-Classroom was inaugurated with a lecture by the eminent mathematician, Professor Yuri Manin who spoke on ‘Numbers as Functions’ as part of the Presidency Lecture Series. Prof Somak Raychaudhury, the Dean of Science, who was the main inspiration behind the lecture series expressed his strong commitment to regional, national as well as worldwide dissemination of online courses from Presidency.

New Cafeteria: Eighty-Six

With piping hot coffee and later, biriyani, the students and staff celebrated the inauguration of 86. The cafeteria now joins the other Presi eating joints such as the ever-famous Promod da’r Canteen and the Cheap Canteen. Once again, the inspiration behind 86 was our Vice Chancellor, Professor Malabika Sarkar
