Dipak Banerjee Memorial Lecture

Prof Dipak Banerjee taught in the Economics department of Presidency College for four decades. During his long and illustrious teaching career, he mentored generations of successful economists who are now based all over the world. To honour the legacy of this great teacher and scholar, a memorial lecture was instituted here in 2007. This year we are honoured to have Professor Amartya Sen.

Professor Amartya Sen, Nobel Laureate, and Lamont University Professor and Professor of Economics and Philosophy at Harvard University, an alumnus of the department of Economics, Presidency College and Advisor to the Chairman, Presidency University Mentor Group, will deliver the Dipak Banerjee Memorial Lecture for 2013 at Derozio Hall on 15th July 2013 at 11:30 AM. The title of his lecture is 'First Things First'.

Self-defense Programme for students and faculty members

A self-defense training course is going to be started by the University from the coming academic session. An introductory session of the same shall be held on 02.05.2013 at the AJC Bose Auditorium from 2 p.m. All are requested to attend and inform respective students accordingly.

The training workshops shall involve a combination of mixed martial arts [MMA] influenced fighting techniques which borrow from popular styles such as Krav Maga, Brazilian Jiu-jitsu, Escrima and Aikido; and interactive discussions on being mentally prepared to disarm or disengage an attacker. On occasion, depending on the age group, there shall be role-play exercises, videos and even street theatre to highlight certain safety issues. Participants shall be engaged from the beginning to the end of the session, and have the option of continuing advanced lessons with the trainers at a later time if they are interested.

Felicitation of Professor Ashok Sen
Professor Ashoke Sen, an alumnus of the department of Physics, Presidency College and a member of the Presidency University Mentor Group, was felicitated by the University at an event organized on the 22nd of December, 2012.
