Date, Time and Venue of Interview:Thursday, November 23, 2023, 11 am. School of Astrophysics, Baker Building, Presidency University, 86/1 College Street, Kolkata 700073, WB, India. The interview will be conducted in in-person mode. In extraordinary circumstances candidates may be allowed to give the interview in online mode.

Application process: The candidate must email i) their current CV including their contact number ii) a 400-word research statement including any past research experience and motivation for this project iii) name and email id or phone number of at least one referee, who can provide feedback on their academic background, to the PI (ritaban.astro@presiuniv.ac.in) before the interview date. Following qualifications are desirable but not mandatory:

a) Previous coursework in astrophysics, research experience in a project related to astrophysics.

b) Previous experience with computer programming, reduction and analyses of astrophysical data.

c) Evidence of good oral and written communication skills in English through presentations in conferences and/or published research work.

Job description: The fellow will contribute to the development of a numerical model of the emission variability of blazar jets. Energetic particles in the jets of blazars cool through nonthermal processes such as synchrotron radiation and inverse-Compton scattering. The model will include the above processes and assume certain structure of the emission region in the jets. The fellow will compare the variability and spectrum of the simulated emission with actual observed data to constrain the geometry, ongoing physical mechanisms and parameters of the jet. The fellow will take part in publishing the scientific findings in reputed peer-reviewed international journals. He/she is encouraged to set-up collaborations with other members of the astrophysics group at Presidency University.

Enrolling for Ph.D.: The selected candidate may be allowed to enroll for Ph.D. program as per university rules.
