Course Objective:

In today’s world, one of the biggest challenges we face is providing enough food for the growing global population. To address food security, CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing technology has been implemented in several crop species to improve traits like yield, pest resistance, and tolerance to environmental stresses. This course aims to provide hands-on training on modern plant breeding techniques. In this course, participants would learn to utilize CRISPR/Cas9 based system to specifically edit genes controlling particular traits in plants.

Modules: Unit 1: Fundamentals of crop improvements Unit 2: Basics of Plant Tissue culture Unit 3: Introduction to CRISPR/Cas technology Unit 4: Tools for plant genetic transformation Unit 5: Gene-specific guide-RNA design and CRISPR/Cas-construct generation. Unit 6: Agrobacterium-mediated plant transformation and transgenic plant development
